The Driving Test.
Your instructor will let you know when he thinks you are ready to take your Driving Test. The test has two parts – Theory, to test your driving knowledge and Practical, to test your skills handling the vehicle.
The Theory Test has two parts and you must pass both before you can apply for a Practical Test:
For the Practical Test you need to have:
• An insured and licensed vehicle with “L” plates front and rear.
• The Theory Test pass certificate.
• Your appointment letter.
• Both parts of your photo card license.
• CBT Certificate (for a motorcycle test).
Follow the examiners’ instructions and don’t worry if you make a mistake, you are allowed up to fifteen faults, although a serious error will result in a fail.
Theory and Practical Tests can be booked on-line at http://www.dvla.gov.uk or by calling 0300 200 1122. You can also download an application form and apply by post. You need a valid Provisional License before you apply and the DVLA aims to give you a date within two weeks of your requested time. Theory Tests cost £31. Practical Tests cost £62 for weekday appointments or £75 for an evening or weekend appointment.
